ABOUT THE WORLD BANK / IMF MEETINGS 2016

Since 1901, The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies has been responsible for the planning and execution of the swearing-in ceremonies and the luncheon for the Inauguration of the President of the United States at the U.S. Capitol. 
For more than 200 years, American citizens have witnessed the Inauguration ceremonies of the President and Vice President of the United States. From the first Inauguration of George Washington to today, as we prepare for the 58th Presidential Inauguration, the swearing-in ceremonies represent both national renewal and continuity of leadership. As each president has offered a vision for America’s future, we reflect on the heritage of Inaugurations past.

It only happens once every four years.  In 1933, the 20th Amendment officially made January 20th “Inauguration Day,” and it has been held on this day at noon ever since.

From parades to balls, Washington, DC will be a flurry of activity and excitement. Event space and museums Rooms in the city will fill quickly! We hope we can welcome you for this historic event!

The Inaugural Luncheon

The Luncheon program includes speeches, gift presentations from the JCCIC and toasts to the new administration. While this tradition dates as far back as 1897, when the Senate Committee on Arrangements first gave a luncheon for President McKinley and several other guests at the U.S. Capitol, it did not begin in its current form until 1953.
